Watching and Living

It can be very overwhelming,
watching and living.
Think of the absoluteness of your fingers
the sturdiness of arbors.
To look past the emptiness
right in front of your eyes.
To stare at something beautiful and know
you may soon fail to recall it.

Remember the sideways bats, remember the look-a-likes,
remember the alps of dreams.
Perpendicular pieces of yourself
a grid of loves and losses that soak to the bone of it.
